Hazara Division divided into Two – New Abasin Division Created

PESHAWAR (June 18, 2011) : A new administrative division was created in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Saturday by carving Abasin division out of Hazara division, KP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti announced in Battagram on Saturday, June 18, 2011.

After Abasin Division :

Abasin Division will Consist of Batagram, Torghar & Kohistan Districts While Hazara Division will consist of Mansehra, Abbottabad & Haripur Districts

The move may stem political debate among non-Pukhtun population of Hazara division who agitated against renaming of the province from North West Frontier Province to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “Creation of Abasin division will take effect from December 31 this year,” CM Hoti declared at a public meeting in Battagram where Muslim League leader. Yousaf Khan Tarand and MPA Taj Mohammad Tarand announced joining CM’s Awami National Party.
ANP provincial president Afrasiab Khattak accompanied the chief minister during his daylong visit to Battagram district.
Political analysts said the decision was “political rather than administrative” and envisaged separating districts like newly created Torghar, Battagram and Kohistan where Pushto-speaking population makes up majority from Hazara. Abbottabad, Haripur and Mansehra districts where non-Pushto (Hindko) population is in majority.
