International community to monitor Pakistan General Elections via satellite
Karachi (Monday, September 10, 2012) – International community will monitor the general elections in Pakistan next year with 6,500 polling booths equipped with latest technology and web cameras. Australian Ambassador HE Peter, after consultations with the Election Commission of Pakistan, Transparency International and diplomatic sources, has issued letters to international donors, including Australia, to practically implement this $50 million project.
The Australian political secretary told Transparency International that there is a danger of rigging at 1,800 out of 6,500 polling booths and the ECP does not have the latest technology to monitor polling through satellite. However, the international community has presented $50 million project for monitoring of transparent elections, which was approved, the Australian ambassador said.
