In General Election 2008, PPP candidate Yousuf Raza Gilani defeated rival candidate Sikandar Hayat Boson but prior to that once Sikandar Boson also defeated Gilani on PML-N ticket. Sikandar Boson is not taking part in the by-polls but his brother Shoukat Boson is competing as an independent candidate and the PML-N is supporting him.
