RAWALAKOT, Dhir Kot, Azad Kashmir (June 23, 2011) : Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) chief Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday that the rulers had converted Islamabad into a corruption market where corruption was auctioned, and corrupt people were being appointed in government and semi-government institutions.
Addressing an election rally of Sardar Khalid Ibrahim, a joint candidate of his party, and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party, Nawaz said 75 million population of the country was living under the poverty line, while the rulers were busy in loot and plunder.
He said Rs500 billion were looted by corrupt elements every year, while those responsible for taking action against the corrupt elements had become their heads. “The PML-N has come to Azad Kashmir because public mandate is being ignored and flatterers are being honoured. We know where tickets are allotted, and where the prime ministers are made,” he said.
Nawaz Sharif said the PML-N had made immense efforts to avoid rigging in AJK polls, adding artificial democracies always damaged the Kashmir cause. “Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani made an emergency visit to Azad Kashmir in a helicopter after seeing the PML-N’s popularity in the area,” he said, adding the people of AJK should learn lesson from the condition of Pakistan caused by the present rulers and should act wisely when casting their votes.
The PML-N chief recalled the attitude of the Indian leadership completely changed after India had conducted five atomic explosions and ‘they were not ready to talk on the Kashmir issue’. “We said enough is enough and conducted six atomic explosions in reply which forced the Indian leadership to come to Pakistan and hold a dialogue on the longstanding issue,” he said, adding the then army chief Pervez Musharraf had spoiled the whole environment by opening the Kargil front. “We have to change ourselves before pointing the finger at others,” he said, adding: “Pakistan stands isolated in the international community now”. He said the PML-N did not accept the Abbottabad inquiry commission because it was constituted without taking the opposition into confidence. -INP
Online adds: PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said suicide attacks were taking place in the country due to continuation of one-man rule’s policy. “Pakistan borders are being violated. Drones fly from inside Pakistan and launch attacks. But the government is deceiving the people,” he added. He said the PML-N used to be described as a friendly opposition, adding: “In fact we supported the government for three years, hoping the situation of the country will improve,” he held.
