Hakim Ali Zardari, father of President Asif Ali Zardari, passed away in Islamabad on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at PIMS hospital.
The senior Zardari had been suffering from liver and kidney complications, but doctors confirmed that he died of multi-organ failure. Initial reports coming in state funeral arrangements had begun last night in Nawabshah, indicating that he might have passed away earlier.
He was in critical condition at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
Funeral prayers will be held at 5pm at Bilawal Stadium in Nawabshah. Zardari will be buried in his ancestral graveyard, Bhalo Ja Quba near Nawabshah.
The PPP has announced three days of mourning and has said that the party will not be conducting any political activity during this period.
Nawabshah has been declared a red zone by the government of Sindh as the president and other senior members of the government will be heading to the city for the funeral.
Hakim Zardari was born in 1930 in Fatuhal Zardari goth near Nawabshah. He began his political career in Nawabshah and was elected as a member of parliament in 1970, and was elected thrice as MNA from his area. Zardari was a close friend of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
He was one of the founding members of the PPP, but later joined the National Democratic Party. Zardari rejoined the PPP in 1980.
Hakim Zardari was the original owner of Bambino Cinema, located in Karachi, and was an industrialist, and the chieftain of the Zardari tribe.
He is survived by four children, President Zardari, Faryal Talpur, Azra Pechuho and Fauzia.
