Pakistan defeated India 5-2 in the play-off for the third-fourth place in the nine-a-side hockey International Super Series to win the bronze medal at the Perth Hockey Stadium in Australia on Sunday. Rashid Mehmood scored twice to help Pakistan register their first win of the series after losing all three of their first round matches.
Pakistan had lost all of its round robin matches – losing the first one to Australia 4-2. The Greenshirts were then were defeated 4-2 by England before India thumped them 5-2 in the final round match. Despite the disappointing round of matches, Pakistan finally managed to pull a victory in the tournament, managing to beat their arch-rivals 5-2.
The International Super Series will be followed by the Champions Trophy which will be played from December 1-9.
